Postpartum care is failing us. It's time for mothers to feel held.

About held

Held is currently being built to be a postpartum support app dedicated to ensuring that no mother feels alone during one of life’s most challenging transitions. It will provide a judgement-free, nurturing space for community connections, emotional care, and clinical check-ins — because every mom deserves to be seen, supported, and held.

We understand this complex journey because we’ve lived it. They call it the ‘baby blues - like it’s cute. But what you’re feeling is real. It’s heavy. And it’s okay to acknowledge that.

And you won't have to go through it alone.

Whether you’re facing a tough moment or simply need reassurance that what you’re experiencing is normal, held will be here for all of it, ready to support you every step of the way.

Real moms — real cries for help

"I didn't want this in my chart."

"The 6-week checkup
was too late."

"I just needed someone to say this is normal."

Why are we building held?

I'm Clair Williams-Vavra, Founder of held, and a mom of two toddlers.

As a mother who has been in the depths of postpartum depression (twice), I knew I couldn't be alone in experiencing these feelings of shame and anxiety, but I didn't know who to talk to, or if what I was feeling was "bad enough" to count.

Unfortunately my assumptions were correct...

20% of moms experience postpartum mood and anxiety disorders (PMAD).

For moms of color, that statistic gets amplified to every 1 in 3.

58% of moms said their
6-week OB visit came too late and/or it didn't address what they were going through.
#2
Suicide is the 2nd leading cause of maternal death in the U.S., and over 50% happen in the first 6 weeks after giving birth.

The system is broken

If you're like me, these numbers should stop you in your tracks. When we say the system is broken, we mean it. These aren’t just statistics. They are moments missed. Lives lost. And moms fading quietly in the background while the world turns its attention to the baby.

Why are we building held? Because we're not willing to accept the status quo anymore.

"I felt like I had to lie on the screening form."

"My provider meant well, but the appointment was all about the baby."

"I Googled things I'm scared to say out loud."

Features that put moms first

Our mission is to create a space where postpartum moms feel seen, supported, and held — through both community connection and clinical care. At held, we aim to meet moms where they're at. Whether you are preparing, wondering, or already walking through postpartum, held is being designed for every stage — even the silent ones.
